MOBILITY CARE
As we get older, or following an injury or as a result of disability, we will sometimes need help getting around and staying mobile.
In support of helping someone to retain his or her independence grants are available towards the cost of supplying mobility aids and equipment. This can include wheelchairs, mobility scooters, stairlifts or ramps as well as many other items. Grants are also available towards the cost of house adaptations required for medical or mobility reasons.
Applicants will be expected to have approached their local health or social services to determine what, if any, support may be available before approaching the Fund. Where there is no support, or a long wait, we may be able to help.
Some of the grants we have offered previously include:
- Scooters
- Riser-recliner chairs
- Lightweight wheelchairs
- Powered wheelchairs
- Stairlift and through-floor lifts
- Car hoists and other car adaptations
- Bathroom adaptations
- Ground floor conversions
Case Study
A detailed occupational therapist report confirmed that James McLachlan’s medical needs were inhibiting both his mobility and his independence. With the prospect of his condition continuing to deteriorate an application was made to the Fund to enhance his quality of life and to make it easier for his wife and family as they struggled to care for him.
“I cannot thank you enough for the immense help you have afforded me in my daily life by these modifications which have greatly enhanced my health and mobility.
Both the stair lift and the installation of a ‘Wet Room’ are also a great help to my wife who previously has had to help me with both the stairs and in the bathroom.
In my Masonic career I have always been aware of the Masonic Samaritan Fund but now, from personal experience, I know just how wonderful your help and support can be.”
