MEDICAL CARE
At some stage in our lives we all may need hospital treatment or surgery. If the diagnosis is accompanied by the news that the treatment or surgery is only available after a lengthy wait then we may be able to ease the pain.
With some exceptions, if licensed by the NHS we will consider applications for all kinds of medical needs. Although most applications in support of a medical need are associated with surgery, support is also available for example, for digital hearing aids, drug treatment for cancer and degenerative diseases and obesity.
Some of the grants we have offered previously include:
- Hip and knee replacement surgery
- Spinal surgery
- Weight-loss surgery
- Cardiac surgery
- IVF treatment
- Chemotherapy
- Hernia surgery
- Hysterectomy
- Functional Electrical Stimulation
- Tonsillectomy
- Cataract extraction
Case Study
Increasing immobility, with no known cause, had vastly reduced Chris Cowley’s capacity to exercise. Weight had piled on, the diets didn’t work without accompanying exercise. He was on the road to increasing ill health and low esteem. The weight gain had exacerbated sleep apnoea, hypertension, pressure on his joints and the real possibility of developing Type II Diabetes. The vision he had for his life was falling apart. He was no longer the husband, father, workmate or Mason that he had planned and still desperately yearned to be.
Although recommended for surgery and within NHS guidelines for treatment his local health authority rejected his consultant’s recommendation so he applied to the MSF.
Within three weeks of his application being approved he was in hospital. Within 6 weeks of surgery he had lost just over 28 Kg (4stones 5.5 lbs), 5 inches off his waist, 7 inches off his chest and 1.5 inches from his neck.
He says “My life has changed. My wife recognises the man she married and my boys the dad they thought they would never see again.”
