Pamela's Story.
At the age of 79, and recently widowed, Pamela was suffering from a very painful hip. With the love and support of her extended family and the Almoner from her husbands former Lodge, she made an application to the MSF.
At a cost of £9,558 she underwent successful surgery for a total hip replacement. She was discharged from hospital after only a few days, pain free, and able to look after herself again in her own home.
A large proportion of the support provided by the Fund is for orthopaedic surgery, mainly hip and knee replacements. These conditions, although not life threatening, are very painful and can greatly inhibit an individual's ability to carry on an independent life. Surgery can provide an effective treatment but this may involve a wait in further pain. Private surgery is expensive but the MSF may be able to help. |
